Question Five - Audience Feedback Video

How did you attract/address your audience?

I included glamorous images, boy band interviews, “exclusive gossip” and beauty tips to attract my audience. When doing research, I found that the contents page is used to also attract the audience when they are flicking through the magazines. Therefore, I made sure that the articles mentioned within my contents would be articles that would interest my peers and me as we are within the target age group. I also asked about the contents when doing my audience feedback to ensure that my articles were effective in attracting my target audience. 70% of purchases are done on impulse therefore my front cover must be eye catching and appealing. On my front cover, I used a main image that was glamorous and eye catching to make my magazine stand out with stereotypical colours that are bright and vibrant which therefore appeal to the young audience. Furthermore, I used the incentive of winning VIP tickets via a competition, which entices the readers to purchase my magazine over other magazines on the shelf.

Responding to Audience Feedback - Double Page Spread

I made the image larger and grouped the text in just half of the page.
I also changed the headline and added typical features of a magazine such as; larger letters at the beginning of text and page numbers alongside the magazine title and the date at the bottom of the pages.
I made the decision of not including the entire interview in the double page spread. Many real interviews and photo shoots go across a number of pages  so I thought this method would work just as well.

Responding to Audience Feedback - Contents Page

I chose the white background due to the majority of my audience feedback choosing it as the best one out of the two colours.
I added a background to my text on the images to make it more clear but blended it more with the photograph by reducing the opacity.
I put the page numbers before the page headings because of revisiting my researched magazines again, I found that this is more of the typical magazine convention.

Responding to Audience Feedback - Front Cover

In response to my audience feedback, I have changed the colour of the pink. I have also changed the weight of the font in the title to make it more bold.

Audience Feedback

I asked roughly ten people within the age range that I had selected to answer a few questions regarding my magazine pages.

What age would you target this magazine at?
Answers varied between 15 and 18. They then said that was because the pink looked slightly florescent.
Is there anything you would suggest that I change about this cover?
The shade of the pink should be made more sophisticated to appeal to a larger audience.

Which contents page do you think looks best?
Blue Background: 3
White Background: 7
What opinions do you have about this contents page? What do you like or what should I change?
The colour combinations work well and the layout is effective and realistic.
The colours on some photos are slightly unclear.

What do you like about this article and what should I change to make it more appealing?
The amount of text is slightly off-putting as the majority of the audience would rather something that is quick and easy to read.
The layout is realistic and the images are good. The large image should be made larger.
The title is a bit vague and shouldn't be just her name.

Creating My Double Page Spread Article

I began planning my layout and made sure that I kept the house style consistent.

I decided on revisiting existing double page articles that my title would be better when on the left and spreading across both pages.

I began to add photos and decided that a number of photos would be better than one large one that didn't allow for sufficient text space.

I decided that the one image I made larger would be an image that is in the same style as the photograph on the front cover.

I continued to add my interview text and more photos. I added the "Tune In" heart at the end of the text to add to the reality of the magazine as the idea has been used in existing magazines that I have looked at in research.

I editted the layout of the last column to finalise my first draft.

Time Management

So far I am on target and on time with my action plan. I am ready to start audience feedback and will then make any necessary changes before writing my evaluation.

Creating My Contents Page

I experimented with background colours in my contents page and I will carry out audience feedback to make my final decision.

I continued to add more photos and articles to make my contents page more busy and exciting. I also revisited some current magazines and used the idea of page numbers being made larger on the photographs.

I began adding photos and captions to make my contents page more realistic and exciting.
I maintained the house style and made sure that I kept the colour and font type the same as the front cover. I also considered the layout and planned the spaces for my relevant photographs.
